Grace Set’s You Free
For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. This passage leads us to the statement, “Grace set’s you free”. Ephesians 2:10 NIV
When I Became a Christian
My past was so full of ungodly things that when I became a Christian, I became as busy as a bee doing works to please God. In my mind, it was like a type of penance and I was paying the price from my past every hour of every day. Every day I woke up thinking of things I better not do and the things I better do. After a while, it was getting exhausting and I was beginning to feel like a hamster running on a wheel, absolutely getting nowhere. I even thought of going back.
One day I met Grace
Then one day, I met Grace. No, not Debra Messing, but God’s beautiful and perfect grace. Grace told me that all the works in the world wouldn’t make God love me anymore. Instead, Grace said, you are free and forgiven and eternally mine, so quit trying to earn brownies points with me and let’s get busy living to advance the Kingdom.
What freedom I experienced. Today when I wake up, my first words are, “Ok Lord, what are we going to do today.” Life is good!
So, here, in a nutshell, is what I discovered. I pray these will speak to you.
- God loves me, PERIOD! When I accepted His Son as my Savior, I was set free from my past. My debt was completely paid by the death and resurrection of Jesus.
- My works were my flesh trying to please God. When in actuality, He was already well pleased with me. Understanding that resulted in me now doing works not out of an obligation or to earn brownie points, but out of my love for Him.
- By becoming Grace conscious I began to serve Jesus from my heart igniting my purpose that was lying dormant. The world looked so different. I saw things only grace let me see and heard things grace only let me hear.
- I still make mistakes and stumble but because I know without a doubt how much I am loved and forgiven, I pick myself up and continue where I left off.
God is so in love with you that He sent His Son Jesus who paid the price for your sins and crazy past. You are free to become the awesome person you were created to become, no guilt or condemnation.
