Overcoming Guilt & Shame
Do you struggle with guilt and shame over past mistakes? If so, let me share with you the power found in God’s Word to break free from guilt and shame.
First, let me say that God’s grace is greater than your sin. No matter what you have done, God’s grace is greater. However, we cannot hide our sin and receive God’s grace and forgiveness. Proverbs 28:13 states, “The one conceals (hides) his sins will not prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them will find mercy.”
Unfortunately, many of us continue to carry the burden of guilt and shame long after we have confessed our sin to God. The problem is NOT God’s grace, but our tendency to listen to the lies of the enemy (Devil) over God’s truth. So, let me ask you… Do you believe God is who He says He is and can do what He says He can do? If so, here is good news… “If we confess our sins, God is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9).
When we come to God and confess our sins, God will then act based upon His faithful and just character. God will not only forgive us of our sins but also cleanse us (wipe our slate clean) from ALL unrighteousness. Yep, all really does mean ALL! There is nothing you have done that God’s grace, through the blood sacrifice of Jesus Christ, cannot cover. It is then by accepting God’s forgiveness and grace that enables us to overcome our guilt and shame.
In this weeks podcast, Ron Meyers interviews Jerry and Michelle Shelfer with Prepare a Room Ministries, based out of Northern California. Michelle shares her personal story of living with guilt and shame over having an abortion. Even after becoming a follower of Christ, Michelle still struggled to overcome her guilt and shame. Jerry and Michelle Shelfer have an incredible ministry that ministers to those who have had or even thought about abortion. Their mission is to set people free so God can restore their joy and pursue their God-given destiny. To listen to this podcast, “Overcoming Guilt and Shame” go to the podcast page and listen to it.
