5 Things to know when you get terminated

Are you prepared to hear the news? I don’t think any person can be prepared mentally to hear those awful words, “We are going in another direction and we will be terminating your position!”  Those words tore me apart and shattered my faith.   In 2010 I had what I called my “Dream Job.”  I was General Manager of a Christian Radio Station and also had an afternoon radio show, “Discover your Destiny.”  A show with music, encouragement, and stories of faith.  I loved my job and often said on the air, “They will have to pry my dead fingers off this microphone.”   In November 2010, I received word through a federal express package laying at my front door that the local station was going to close in thirty days and my position would be terminated.

Thursday, November 19, 2010, was a day that changed my life forever.  I had a show like any other day and only I knew it would be my last.  Because of a severance package I received, I wasn’t allowed to tell the listeners that I was leaving.  I couldn’t say goodbye, adios or I will see you again one day.  At 6:00 p.m. I turned off my microphone, pried fingers off my microphone and walked out of the studio and walked into the unknown.

5 things that will turn your worst day, into your best day!

My Christian Faith took me on a journey to have God answer two questions that haunted me, Why would He allow this and was I being punished?  Thoughts like that can destroy a person’s optimism and destiny. This became a very personal thing with me and Jesus.  I needed to know, WHY!  What I discovered rocked my world and took me to a point of understanding that life is full of changes and those changes are necessary if you truly want to discover your destiny.   I love to tell people that what was the worst day of my life became the best day of my life!  Here are five things that revolutionized my walk with God and will do the same for you!

1. Take your anger and questions to the real Jesus!

When change comes, you will have questions and Jesus has the perfect answers.  There is no proper way to talk to Jesus.   Be open, honest, and respectful.  Lay it all out share your feelings, all of them.  One day it was time to have a sit-down talk with Jesus and get some answers.  My conversation went something like,

“Jesus, you are going to have to get me through this.  You have to show me why this happened.  You have to increase my faith and trust in you because right now, I am not too happy and I need an answer!”

2. Know who you are!

I was sitting quietly waiting and praying for an answer and then I heard that quiet still voice inside me say, Ron, you got to wrapped up in your title.  The world gave you a title, general manager of a radio station.  I gave you a title when you were born, you are a child of mine with a plan and purpose. You got so wrapped up in your title you quit listening to me.  It was time to move into the next part of your life and you would have never initiated this move on your own, so I did.  You are not being punished but rather promoted.  You are a child of God with a purpose.  That was a humbling moment in my life. You and I must never forget that we are a child of God, with a perfect plan and He alone will reveal it!

Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God. John 1:12

3. You are where you need to be!

Destiny doesn’t always give you a perfect plan.  It is up and down and all around.  God will always strategically place you in the right place at the right time.  Even though you may feel it is the wrong place and definitely the wrong time.  Would you purposely hurt your child?  Of course not!  Your Heavenly Father loves you, has a plan for you and it is of good and not of harm. There will be times in your life that God will move you because something bigger is about to happen for you.  You are being positioned to walk in the fullness of your destiny!

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11

4. You have to have Faith!

Faith can absolutely move every mountain of doubt, uncertainty, fear, and anxiousness out of your life.  Jesus is your faith!  Jesus is the only friend in your life that is totally 100% for you and never against you.  Family, friends, and associates will disappoint and let you down, but it is impossible for Jesus to lie to you or set you up for failure. Faith is the key to understanding that your purpose is greater than your circumstances.  Faith is the fuel for the passion to discover your purpose.  Faith is the very thing that when the future arrives you see that, it all worked out for good.  You know that you know that your friend Jesus, always had you in the palm of His hand, carrying you from one journey to the next.

“Have faith in God,” Jesus answered.  “Truly I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them. Therefore, I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.”

5. You have nothing to Fear!

Don’t fear transformation.  You are going from one stage to another stage in life and without bumps, bruises, and hurts you will never truly understand and feel the awesome love that only the real Jesus can give you.  Hurts are real and resentment is real but you can never let them dominate your thoughts and actions.  You have to trust that you are walking into a new part of your life and one day you will be on top of the mountain looking over your past.  You will see how the hand of God weaved you in and out of some crazy situations only to show you that He always had your best interests in mind.  God is always for you and never against you. You are destined for success with Jesus!

For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength. Philippians 4: 13

One final thought….

Friends, sometimes you can do all the right things and follow all the rules and you can still lose something you dearly love.  It can drain every ounce of energy from you and even cause you to just give up.  You can never give up.  You can never give in to those insecure feelings and because the hurt is so alive, you can only trust the real Jesus with your situation.  He is your real friend that will let you talk, scream, cry and laugh all while holding you as if your life depended on it because it does.  Your strength and vision for the future come through your friend, Jesus the Encourager.  Give him every hurt, every pain, every disappointment, and every rejection and He will return it to you with reason and purpose.   A positive outlook to a tough situation is a must.  Since you know that God is for you and not against you, you need to anticipate success.  You need to trust Him for the perfect outcome.  Jesus will set you on a path to understanding the change in life and most of all, will draw you into a closer relationship with Him.  You are on your way to great and mighty things.  You are reading this because God needed to get a message to you.   No matter where you are in life, you are exactly where God needs you to be.  You are getting ready to enter a new season of life.  You must hold tight to the promises of Jesus and trust Jesus, your real friend.  Destiny is calling you today and I will end by telling you, THIS IS YOUR TIME!

A Prayer for you to pray:

Dear Jesus, the changes in my life are overwhelming.  I am just trying to get through each day understanding your purpose for me.   Some days, I just can’t do it.  It seems like the more I try the more the more I get confused.  I need you to open my spiritual eyes.  I need to see what You see for my future.  I need to feel that You are really with me and for me.  I need You to show up with more power, more strength, more vision, more direction than ever.  I do not like to question faith, but I am beginning too.  Help me, guide me and inspire me today with the truth.  Pick me up and hold me so I can be a promoter of You.  I am grateful that you have blessed me with talents, skills, and abilities.  Help me see a clearer understanding of what you have for me.  I am totally yours and look forward to walking up the mountain with you.  I love you, need you, trust you, and thank you in advance for what you are doing in and through me.   Thank you for my true and gracious friend!  Amen!

P.S. Even though I have moved on and new doors have opened, I will always miss that part of my life.  It makes me appreciate everything in my life today because your life can change in a blink of an eye.  Enjoy, embrace, and love life.  Most importantly, love Jesus with all your heart!  He will never leave you!
