Redemption stories are powerful because they sound like real Life: messy, confusing, and often painful before hope breaks through. In this deeply personal conversation with John Martin on Road to Redemption, Ron Meyers shares a Christian testimony that stretches from childhood despair to a lifetime of discovering that God can use even the chapters we wish we could erase.
A Voice in the Darkness
Ron’s story begins when he was 11 years old and overwhelmed by feelings that he would be better off gone. In that dark moment, he says he heard a clear and beautiful voice tell him not to hurt himself because God had a plan for his Life. Because of something Sister Mary Catherine had taught him in Catholic school — that when Jesus speaks, you will know His voice — Ron believed it was Jesus.
That moment became a thread running through the decades that followed. Life did not suddenly become easy. Family struggles, rejection, disappointment, wrong turns, and seasons when the future made little sense followed. But underneath it all remained a promise: God had a plan.
When Responsibility Arrives Fast
Young adulthood came quickly. Ron married at 18, entered the Air Force, moved from Iowa to Mississippi, and became the father of two small children. When his marriage ended and he found himself caring for a two-year-old and a one-year-old, he remembers looking toward heaven and asking, “Lord, what am I going to do?”
His experience reminds us that faith is not always having the whole plan. Sometimes faith is simply trusting God enough to take the next step when you have no idea what step ten will look like.
Successful on the Outside, Miserable on the Inside
After leaving the Air Force, Ron poured himself into business and promotion. He built events, chased ideas, attracted attention, and experienced the kind of success that looked impressive from the outside. But ambition and accomplishment could not fill what was missing inside.
Years later, sitting in a hotel room in Atlanta, he finally admitted it: things were going well, yet he was miserable. That became another defining moment. Ron recalls sensing God say, “Now that I have your attention, let me show you what you were created for.”
That question reaches beyond Ron’s story. How many of us spend years trying to prove ourselves, achieve enough, earn enough, or impress enough people — only to discover that success without purpose can still leave the soul empty?
The Warehouse Church and an Unexpected Lesson
Ron began turning away from the Life he had built toward a ministry focused on people who might never walk through the doors of a traditional church. One of the most memorable chapters was an empty warehouse he had once used to store festival sets and beer booths. He felt led to turn that unlikely place into a church and invite people to gather on Tuesday nights.
It was not polished. No air conditioning or heat, and the building had plenty of rough edges. But people came.
Then an opportunity appeared that seemed like an obvious blessing: a traditional church building with heat, air conditioning, a kitchen, and the comforts the warehouse lacked. Ron moved the ministry there — and attendance began to fall. He says God reminded him that his assignment had been to build something that did not look, act, or feel like the traditional church experience.
The lesson stayed with him: not every opportunity that looks better is necessarily your assignment. Sometimes God places us in unusual spaces because those are the places where the people He wants us to reach feel safe enough to show up.
Share Your Story, Not a Sermon
That lesson helped shape Ron’s ministry philosophy. People who have been hurt, disappointed, or turned off by religion may not be looking for another invitation to church. They may need to hear what Jesus has done in someone else’s real Life.
You do not need a perfect past, a theology degree, or a polished platform to tell someone how God met you. No one can argue away your story. When Jesus has met you in the middle of your mess, that experience becomes part of the message you carry.
Hope That Leads to Peace
Hope becomes the heartbeat of Ron and John’s conversation — not shallow optimism or pretending everything is fine, but the kind of hope that helps a person keep moving when Life hurts. They talk about anxiety, depression, isolation, human connection, prayer, Scripture, community, and the peace people desperately want in a noisy world.
Ron also returns to identity and purpose. You are not a copy. You are an original. You have gifts, abilities, experiences, and a story that no one else can bring to the world in the same way. Your past does not automatically disqualify you from your future.
God Is Not Finished With Your Story
The conversation even reaches back to Ron’s experience at the Brownsville Revival, where he witnessed thousands of people seeking God and experienced a renewed sense of calling for his own Life. Again and again, the same theme surfaces: God is not finished simply because we cannot see what comes next.
Redemption does not mean every chapter suddenly makes sense. It means we begin to trust the Author.
Ron’s Next Step
Tomorrow morning, before the noise of the world gets hold of you, have your own coffee with Jesus. Be open. Be honest. Be transparent. You do not need fancy religious language. Talk to Him about what hurts, what frightens you, what you regret, and what you still hope for.
Then ask one simple question: “Jesus, what do You want to do with the rest of my story?“
Your road may have been messy. You may have taken wrong turns. You may even wonder whether you have gone too far. But grace has a way of meeting people at their lowest point and giving them a new beginning.
Your mess may become the very message somebody else needs to hear.
